Who We Are

Jana Strukova, Ph.D.

Jana is the founder and Executive Director with 25 years of experience in higher education, leadership, and interdisciplinary work in theology and psychology. She holds a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary and was a Lilly postdoctoral fellow in spiritual practices at Emory University. She is the author of numerous books and her research and work span across academia to nonprofit leadership. At the Center, she helps individuals with the questions of faith, spiritual practices, and stress management.
Heidi Miller

Ellen I. Koski-Ponton, Ph.D., Clinical Supervisor and NC Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Ellen has been in private practice since 1994. She provides individual and couples counseling and supervises therapists at The Mary and Martha Center. She also teaches, researches, and mentors students at Pfeiffer University and Central Piedmont Community College.
Heidi Miller

Heidi A. Miller, Ph.D.

Heidi joins our team with extensive experience in transformative aspects of leadership, spirituality, spiritual guidance, justice, and worship. Author of Deep Listening in the Neighborhood curriculum, Heidi has been a consultant with congregations and organizations undergoing transition and trauma, particularly with marginalized communities. She has served as staff and adjunct faculty at Duke University, and faculty at Southern Methodist University, and Eastern Mennonite University. Heidi currently works at Pfeiffer University in Charlotte as Assistant Professor and Director of the Master’s Practical Theology and The Center for Deacon Education.
Regina Butler

Regina Butler

Regina is the Pastoral Care Coordinator and leading mentor in the Side-by-Side mentoring program. She holds a B.A. in Human Services from Pfeiffer University and coordinates multiple initiatives on empowering women locally and internationally. Born and raised in the community, she brings a rich experience of issues and needs that the Center addresses.

Laura Emery, MSP, BSN, RN

Laura works for Atrium Health in the role of Faith Community Health Ministry Coordinator. She has been a registered nurse for 30 years and worked in the pediatric, GI, and pulmonary divisions of hospitals in Greenville and Charleston. She has held academic roles as a Nursing School/CNA instructor at Stanly Community College, NC. Laura helps coordinate research on social determinants of health in the region between The Mary and Martha Center and Atrium Health.
